A 50-year-old former doctor from Waterloo, Ont., was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with 34 counts of sexual assault, Waterloo Regional Police say.

Police say Jeffrey Sloka was arrested at approximately 8:45 a.m.

According to police, each charge is related to a separate victim and the reported assaults occurred over a seven-year period.

Police say the victims were patients under his care from January 2010 to February 2017.

“It’s an investigation that’s been spanning over a number of years by our special victims unit, and as a result of that investigation, to this point, there are 34 counts of sexual assault being made against the 50-year-old Waterloo man,” Const. Andre Johnson told Global News.

Police say the investigation began last January while Sloka was working as a physician in Kitchener.

Sloka was a neurologist with privileges at both St. Mary’s Hospital and Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, as well as at Guelph General Hospital.

He had his licence revoked in April after several former patients came forward with allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

Two former patients accused him of inappropriate behaviour in August 2017. While awaiting a hearing, which was to take place in April of this year, a third woman came forward.

Sloka pleaded no contest to the allegations, which included the inappropriate touching of breasts, inappropriate comments toward a patient, and suggestions that the doctor had his patients inadequately dressed or naked.

Johnson told Global News that the victims have been made aware of the arrest.

“Members of our special victims unit continue to speak with victims to follow up with them to make them aware of the process and what’s going forward,” he explained.

Police believe there may be more victims and say the case remains under investigation. They are asking anyone with information to call the Waterloo Regional Police’s special victims unit at 519-570-9777, ext. 8673, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
