Relay for Easter Seals

Hanging out with friends and going to summer camp may seem like no big deal but for some kids it really is.

Crystal Lee’s son has problems interacting with kids his own age, “I would just worry about him eventually joining a mainstream camp and getting out there,” explains Lee, “I wanted a way for him to gain more independence, more self confidence. This would be a great way to do that and help other kids do it too.”

What people like Crystal Lee are doing is sending kids to a special summer camp for kids just like her son.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Lee is a member of a 24 hour relay team called Full Spectrum.

The team is taking part in the annual Easter Seals event which raises money for kids with physical and cognitive disabilities to go the camp’s Winfield location.

This year the event takes place June 8 and 9 at the Kelowna Apple Bowl.

In past years participating teams have raised upwards of $200,000 by running for 24 hours straight, something that is well worth it for mom’s like Crystal Lee who can give her sons an experience he would otherwise not have.

“I don’t have a big history of doing a lot for charity but it finally hit me that his is something that really does affect us and we can help out a lot of other kids along the way.”
