Man dead after ‘targeted’ shooting in Toronto’s west end

Officials say a man has died after a shooting in Toronto‘s west end Wednesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the Weston Road and Sidney Belsey Crescent area, west of Jane Street, at around 9:10 p.m.

Toronto police said a car pulled up beside the victim’s vehicle and the driver was shot, causing the man to crash into a tree.

Paramedics rushed the man to a trauma centre with a police escort. He later died of his injuries.

On Thursday, police identified him as 33-year-old Toronto resident Abdikani Ismail.

Investigators said they believe the shooting was targeted, but wouldn’t comment on possible gang ties.
