Hadfield interested in politics, but not now

Chris Hadfield says he’s interested in politics but has no immediate plans to make it his next career.

The 53-year-old Canadian space veteran is still recovering in Houston after spending five months on the International Space Station.

In an interview with The Canadian Press, Hadfield was asked whether he might use his newfound fame as a springboard into the political arena.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He said not right now — but he wouldn’t rule it out further down the road.

Hadfield says his astronaut schedule — and his life — are currently planned right up until early July when he’ll serve as Calgary Stampede parade marshal.

He also mentioned that the final day of his celebrated space station mission was tinged with melancholy — courtesy of his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.

When Hadfield landed this week — wearing a Leafs T-shirt under his spacesuit — he asked his wife two questions — how was she doing, and what happened in Game 7 of the Leafs series against the Boston Bruins.

He then compared his team’s devastating overtime loss to his re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere, observing that both he and the Leafs had come down in flames.
