UPDATE: The eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near Salmon Arm have been reopened after being closed earlier this morning because of a traffic accident.
DriveBC says motorists can expect delays and congestion.
ORIGINAL STORY:
An accident involving a motorcycle and a truck near Salmon Arm has closed the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway.
According to DriveBC, the incident occurred at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 97B, with Salmon Arm RCMP adding the accident occurred approximately at 8 a.m.
The westbound lanes are open of the Trans-Canada Highway, but the eastbound lanes are closed.
“Upon arrival, it was determined that a pickup truck travelling west on Highway 1 turned left in front of an eastbound motorcycle in the controlled intersection,” Salmon Arm RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov said in a press release.
“The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The motorcycle rider, a man in his 60s from Alberta, was transported to hospital in serious condition and his prognosis is not known.”

Motorists can use an alternate route via Highways 97B and 97A.
The highway is expected to fully reopen at 12:30 p.m.
Police noted that this was the second collision involving a motorcycle on Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Revelstoke in recent days.
They are reminding motorists to be vigilant as they travel around B.C., drive defensively, obey speed limits, wear seat belts, drive sober and drive distraction-free.
