TORONTO — Canadian rapper Drake leads the way going into this year’s BET Awards with 12 nominations.

The 26-year-old Toronto performer has four nods in the Best Collaboration category and five in the Video of the Year category — including one for his own “Started from the Bottom.”

Drake is also nominated twice in the Viewers Choice Award category.

He will take on 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, Future and Kendrick Lamar up for the Best Male Hip Hop Artist honour.

Drake, who starred on the Canadian series Degrassi: The Next Generation, has three previous BET Awards and won a Grammy in February for Best Rap Album.

The BET Awards, hosted by Chris Tucker and featuring performances by Chris Brown and R. Kelly, will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on June 30.
