Tornado warning issued for Vulcan County downgraded to thunderstorm warning

A tornado warning was issued for Vulcan County on Sunday.

At 5:30 p.m., Environment Canada issued the emergency alert for Brooks, Strathmore and Vulcan.

The agency said a “rotating severe thunderstorm” that might produce a tornado was 15 kilometres west of Lomond and was moving east at 35 km/h.

Environment Canada said to seek shelter immediately if you were in those areas.

Close to 6:30 p.m., the tornado warning was downgraded to a thunderstorm warning for the county.

Environment Canada meteorologists said the storm could create very strong wind gusts, up to golf ball-sized hail and heavy rain. The thunderstorm was near Bow City, moving to the east at 40 km/h.
