A house fire in Surrey that left two children in critical condition has been deemed “suspicious” by investigators.
Flames erupted at a home in the area of 71 Avenue between 144A and 144B Streets around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, with fire and paramedic crews responding quickly to the scene.
Surrey Fire Deputy Chief John Lehmann said witnesses told crews people were trapped inside a basement suite, prompting an “aggressive interior attack.”

Fire crews said the blaze was located in and contained to that basement suite, with smoke coming from the top of the building.
Surrey RCMP said Monday that three people, including two children, were taken to hospital with injuries. The two children are currently in critical condition.
RCMP said investigators believe the fire is suspicious and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
