Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for Calgary at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, saying a low-pressure system would continue to bring precipitation to the city.

Rain fell for much of the day before the rainfall warning was cancelled by late afternoon.

Friday’s rainfall caused localized flooding in some areas in Calgary and the surrounding area, with people reporting lots of water on the roads and one woman even being forced out of her home because of flooding.

“[It] just came gushing through the door,” Ginnie McEwan told Global News from outside her Montgomery neighbourhood home.

“[It] started like a little fountain then started to gush like Niagara Falls. It was about up to my knees.”

The Red Cross is helping the family with lodgings as their northwest Calgary home is currently uninhabitable.

A large pool of water was also seen outside a school in the northwest community of Tuscany, with parents raising concerns around drainage issues at the Eric Harvey School. The Calgary Board of Education said it was aware of drainage problems and that it has plans to address them in the summer.

WATCH: Some Calgarians have been left with a big cleanup and some safety concerns following the recent rainfall. Global’s Tomasia DaSilva reports.
