Halloran says she’s proud that citizens took the time to voice their opinions, and that city councillors listened.
The city received more than 1,000 submissions during its public engagement session, 920 of which were against a casino.
Now, the city will be sending a letter to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. informing the provincial agency of its decision.

“We’re being looked at as a high tech community, a community that prides itself on its academics and focuses on citizens, and a safe and healthy community,” Halloran said of the residents’ concerns.
“They felt that the casino just didn’t fit in with the vision of their Waterloo.”
