Sources say the structure on fire is a dairy barn with about 100 cows inside, but official confirmation was not immediately available.

Smoke from the blaze could be seen several kilometres away.

By late Saturday morning the fire was out but the barn completely destroyed. Reports from the scene suggested only about half the cows in the barn were saved.

No word yet what caused the blaze. There were no reports of injuries.
