Police forced their way into a home where a fire had started and removed a suspect Thursday night, ending an armed and barricaded situation on Nairn Avenue which lasted close to seven hours.
At 1:45 p.m., a vehicle was involved in a collision on the Nairn Overpass. A man inside the vehicle fled on foot and eventually made his way into a home on Nairn, where he threatened to shoot officers.
The tactical support team arrived shortly after and began treating the situation as an armed and barricaded incident.
Just after 8 p.m., a fire started in the home and officers made their way in through a window, taking the man out of the burning house. The fire was soon brought under control, but received significant damage.
The suspect was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons and is expected to be charged once released.

Three other people were safely removed from the home throughout the evening before the fire started. Police couldn’t confirm how the fire started.
No other injuries have been reported. Police couldn’t confirm if the suspect had a connection to the home.
Nairn between Stadacona and Watt was closed during the incident causing major traffic delays during the evening rush hour.
“There’s a lot that was happening here and we needed to block off a lot of streets to bring this to a safe conclusion,” Winnipeg Police Const. Jay Murray said.
The investigation continues. Police said they were also looking into a firearms-related incident in the Chalmers area shortly before the crash, but couldn’t confirm if the same suspect was involved.
