A 35-year-old man has been charged after a vehicle rammed into the provincial building and courthouse in Edson, Alta., over the weekend.
RCMP were called to the building at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
RCMP said a vehicle was stolen from the ATCO compound next door, driven through a fence and into the east entrance of the provincial building.
Police allege the male suspect then proceeded to drive through the building, exiting on the west side. The ordeal caused extensive damage throughout both the provincial building and the courthouse, police said in a media release Saturday.
Police said they found anti-Semitic messages throughout the building.
The man was taken into custody at 11 a.m.
On Monday, RCMP said Kelvin Brent Zawadiuk, of Edson, was charged with break and enter, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, theft of a truck, two counts of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
On May 16, RCMP added an additional Criminal Code charge. Zawadiuk was also charged with public incitement of hatred in connection with the incident.
Zawadiuk remained in custody May 16 and was scheduled to appear in Edson Provincial Court on May 21.
No injuries were reported.
