An intersection on Ness Avenue has drawn attention by many in west Winnipeg.
Drivers in the Crestview-Sturgeon Creek area have had to navigate around a giant hole in the roadway.
Some area residents took the road hazard in stride Thursday evening, setting up chairs and posting on social media they were out fishing for the LochNESS monster.
Joe Mcdougall and Shawn Pageot said they didn’t hook anything on their fishing lines, but did catch a lot of smiles and waves.
The giant pit opened up between Ness Avenue and Parkdale Street, not far from a middle school.
The city suggested the issue was caused by a water main break and cautioned people against getting too close to the crater.
“The City is aware of a void in the road at Ness Avenue and Parkdale Street. Crews have barricaded the area and turned off the water main to facilitate the repair,” city staff said in a written statement.
“For their safety, residents are reminded to stay away from the area, and not go behind the barricades,” said the City.
Barricades were up Thursday and Friday blocking off the metre-deep pit from driver and pedestrian access.
