A woman is dead after a pedestrian versus vehicle crash in a shopping centre parking lot Monday afternoon at about 3 p.m.
Winnipeg police confirmed the pedestrian was a 57-year-old woman. While they said she was transported to hospital with “life-threatening injuries, where she was pronounced deceased,” when Global News got to the scene, they found a tarp-covered body in the middle of the lot that stayed there for several hours before being transported.
Winnipeg police are asking any witnesses to come forward, although the driver has been identified and did remain at the scene, said Cst. Rob Carver.
Carver said the driver was operating a half-ton truck.
There have been three fatal pedestrian crashes in the past few weeks, said Carver, but there’s no correlation between any of them.
“If we had a number where there was some commonality, saying, all being at pedestrian corridors, but this is in a private parking lot … while construction is going on.”
“Certainly pedestrian vehicle fatalities, we always wonder if something could have been done differently to make sure that doesn’t happen, but this is completely not connected and unrelated to the first two.”
The area is currently under construction as renovations and new builds happen in and near the mall.
