Cape Breton middle school employee facing threats charge after alleged incident

A 54-year-old Cape Breton man has been charged with uttering threats, after police investigated an alleged incident between a student and an employee at a Glace Bay middle school.

Cape Breton Regional Police say they received the complaint on Feb. 26.

The investigation has involved the school liaison officer and school administration at Oceanview Education Centre.

The New Waterford man was arrested Tuesday and has been released on a promise to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on May 13.

A spokesperson from the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education confirms they were advised the employee will be subject to criminal charges and that he is currently on leave from his job.

“Our Centre for Education has a strong commitment to the safety and well being of students and staff while providing a safe and respectful learning environment.  Administration at the school are presently working with both students and staff addressing any concerns brought forward due to these allegations,” Michelle MacLeod wrote in an email.

“All allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and addressed.”
