Police lay charges after man allegedly threatened with knife in Meaford

A man has been charged with uttering threats and assault with a weapon following an altercation in Meaford, police say.

Grey County OPP say on Tuesday at around 7:30 p.m., a man was walking through a commercial parking lot on Sykes Street South when he was stopped and confronted by an unknown man in a pickup truck.

Police say the driver allegedly displayed a knife and threatened the victim for looking inappropriately at his girlfriend who was seated next to him in the truck.

Officers say after a brief verbal altercation, the suspect drove away.

Following an investigation, police say the suspect was identified and arrested.

Officers say 22-year-old Andrew Hilts from Meaford was charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Police say the accused is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on April 18.
