A female student was assaulted while jogging in Pacific Spirit Regional Park earlier this month, and police are asking for public’s assistance to identify the suspect.
It happened on April 1 between 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
The student was jogging near Trail 3 when she was approached by an unknown Aboriginal man who asked her what time it was.
He then suddenly grabbed her, throwing her to the ground, and ran away.
The female victim suffered minor scrapes to her knee. She was not sexually assaulted or robbed and no weapons were seen.
The motive for the assault is unknown at this time.
The suspect is described as in his early to mid twenties, 5’9 to 5″10 ft tall, with heavy build, medium skin tone, short black hair which came forward at the front, brown eyes, round face and black round framed glasses (not sunglasses).
He was wearing a black shirt with a white circular logo, baggy blue jeans and shoes.
Police say officers have been conducting enhanced and directed patrols in the area of the assault.
Four years ago, the body of Wendy Ladner-Beaudry was found adjacent to a popular trail in Pacific Spirit Park. No one has been arrested or charged in the murder of the 53-year-old mother of two. IHIT investigators have interviewed more than 500 people in the case, but failed to identify any concrete leads.
