Ontario Provincial Police say they stopped a vehicle that was travelling almost double the speed limit on a major highway in Leeds County.
According to OPP, on March 18, at around 5:50 p.m., the vehicle was going eastbound down Highway 401 through Leeds and Thousand Islands Township when it was clocked at 97 km/h over the speed limit.
Police say the vehicle whizzed by a parked OPP vehicle on the highway. When the driver was stopped, police say he told the officer that he was speeding because he was late to pick up his friend from Quebec.
The 23-year-old Niagara Falls man was charged with stunt driving and had his car towed and impounded for seven days.
