The former navigation officer in charge of the Queen of the North will be back in court today for his third day of testimony.

Karl Lilgert is charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death, and was visibly upset on the stand yesterday, sobbing through most of his testimony.

Lilgert admitted to being horrified when he looked up to see the trees of Gil Island — where the ferry eventually ran aground and sank in 2006.

Lilgert also recalled discussions about passenger counts, hearing that all 102 people had been rescued, but that count was wrong.

The bodies of Gerald Foisy and Shirly Rosette of Hundred Mile House were never found.
