Man and woman wanted on drug charges arrested in northern Saskatchewan

A man and a woman wanted on numerous unrelated drug and weapons offences in northern Saskatchewan are facing 27 charges.

La Ronge RCMP said Zakaria Albino Wani, 29, and Deborah Maggie McKenzie, 29, were wanted for offences that took place in Prince Albert and Stanley Mission.

Officers searched a home in La Ronge, Sask., on the evening of March 9 and arrested the pair.

Police said nine grams of suspected crack cocaine, a large sum of cash, a restricted firearm, ammunition, and several pieces of fraudulent identification were seized during the search.

The accused are facing charges which include possession of a stolen firearm, trafficking a controlled substance, and possession of property obtained by crime under and over $5,000.

Wani is also charged with obstructing a police officer, personation, identity theft/fraud, possession of ammunition while prohibited, and possession of a gun while prohibited.

Wani and McKenzie, who are both from the La Ronge district, remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in La Ronge provincial court on March 11.

The search was carried out by crime reduction team members and La Ronge RCMP.
