Woman in custody after man dies in stabbing at Mississauga apartment

A 48-year-old Mississauga woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a man was fatally stabbed in an apartment in the city’s south end.

Const. Taryn Hill told reporters officers and paramedics were called to a building on Ann Street, near Hurontario Street and Lakeshore Road East, at 10:20 p.m. on Friday.

“Upon arrival we did locate a victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. A short time later the victim was pronounced (dead) on scene,” she said.

Hill said a woman was taken into custody a short time later.

Police said the man and the woman were in an intimate relationship.

On Saturday morning, police identified the victim as 54-year-old Michael Johnston.

Mary Ljubanovich, 48, was charged with second degree murder.

Police said there are no outstanding suspects.

Johnston’s death marks Peel Region’s third murder of 2019.
