Ontario’s police watchdog says charges aren’t warranted against an officer who shot and killed an armed man in Timmins, Ont.
The Special Investigations Unit says the officer was justified in shooting Joey Knapaysweet on Feb. 3, 2018, because he feared for his life.
The SIU says Timmins police were called to a location on reports that a 21-year-old man was acting strangely.
It says police Tasered a man holding a knife in each hand after he lunged at an officer.

The agency says the man wasn’t slowed down and took off onto a frozen lake before having another confrontation with police.
The SIU says the man came at an officer again with one knife after another ineffective stun gun attempt, which is when the officer shot and killed the man.
