WATCH: Investigators are asking for the public's assistance into the death of Richard “Blair” Young. He was reported missing in February of 2017 and his body was discovered on the Malahat on March 2nd, 2017 – Mar 6, 2019

Two years after the body of a Victoria man was found on the side of the Malahat, Victoria police are asking the public for help finding information on his death.

Richard “Blair” Young was first reported missing on Feb. 15, 2017, a week after the 72-year-old was last seen leaving his Victoria apartment. The case was soon taken over by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU).

On March 2, 2017, Young’s body was found near a rest stop on the Malahat.

Police have been investigating ever since, and said Wednesday they have identified persons of interest in the case.

They also said more than $30,000 in fraudulent transactions were made using Young’s credit cards and bank account after his disappearance.

Police released security video Wednesday of the last time Young left his apartment building, on Feb. 8, 2017.

They’re hoping the public will help piece together Young’s whereabouts between his apartment that day and his disappearance, in order to help bring closure to his family.

“Often you’ll wind up talking to people a significant time later who have critical information, but they never told anybody because they didn’t think it was important or they thought someone else may have told police,” Insp. David Hall with the VIIMCU said.

“We need to get this back into the public view now, because we’re at the point where we need the help from from the public,” he added.

Despite Young’s death being ruled a homicide, the official cause of his death has not been released. Police have added the public is not at risk.
