Kingston pedestrian struck by vehicle left with minor injuries: police

A male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and taken to hospital after a collision in Kingston on Tuesday morning.

Around 11 a.m., Kingston police say an elderly female driver was turning onto Gore Street from Ontario Street when she realized a pedestrian was crossing the road.

Police say, instead of slamming on the brakes, the woman allegedly put her foot down on the gas pedal and hit the pedestrian.

During the collision, police report the driver ran up onto the sidewalk, taking out a sign post and narrowly missing a tree.

The pedestrian was left with minor injuries but there is no word on the condition of the driver.

Gore Street was closed for a short period of time but was reopened to traffic before noon.
