Pride Winnipeg has announced the theme for the June festival this year is the “Pride of Colour.”
Organizers say the 2019 theme will focus on diversity in hopes of amplifying the voices of racialized minorities.
“One of the frequently overlooked and commonly ignored intersection is race and colour of GSRD community,” Pride Winnipeg said in a media release.
The two-day celebrations kick off on June 1.
The event will also include a newly developed “KidsZone” this year. Directors say the zone will include a stage with live entertainment, a mobile play area complete with a slide, and a Blue Bombers obstacle course.
The organization announced in February that the popular pride parade will now take place in the heart of Winnipeg’s downtown — and pass through the iconic Portage and Main intersection.
The rally will begin on the steps of the Legislature followed by the parade starting near on Memorial Boulevard, which will continue eastbound on Portage Avenue and end near Shaw Park and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
