Pride Winnipeg has announced a change of plans to its 2019 LGBTQ celebrations.

The organization says this year’s June parade will take place in the heart of Winnipeg’s downtown — through the iconic Portage and Main intersection.

Pride Winnipeg says the expanded route shows the city’s forefront of celebrating and advocating for gender, sexuality and relationship diversity.

““This is a monumental change for the route,” said Micaela Reeve, parade director.

Reeve says Mayor Brian Bowman was “extremely supportive” in moving the annual parade to the iconic intersection.

The rally will begin on the steps of the Legislature followed by the parade starting near on Memorial Boulevard, which will continue eastbound on Portage Avenue and end near Shaw Park and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
