Christmas is just a few hours away and I can't help but ponder about the things that are distinctly Christmas-y, the things that (for whatever reason) remind me that Christmas is really here:
Candy canes! Maybe it's the colours or the different combination of colours on the canes but I know Christmas is here when I get offered a candy cane.
The annual competition of who has the best Christmas lights. I know growing up my house was never this elaborate. But it's always fun to watch people try to out-do one another. Elborate scenes, blow up Santas, plastic reindeer…ahh…intense energy consumption is truly a sign the holidays are here…
Maybe it's me but I feel like I don't see Ferrero Rocher commercials anytime during the year except for Christmas. I'm not complaining though, it gives me a legitimate reason to binge on them.
I had never had a real, "live" poinsettia until this year. I only associate poinsettias with the holidays because one of the few Christmas decorations we had around my house while I was growing up was a red plastic poinsettia!
These are just a few of the things I associate with Christmas. And here are what a couple other CHBC News employees had to say:
Barry McDivitt (reporter): fruitcakes, a freshly cut Christmas tree, sleigh rides, Christmas baking
Chris Sobon (assignment editor): sledding, family gatherings, a big dinner
Steve Beskidny (cameraman): Christmas carols, Christmas tree, Christmas ads
Merry Christmas from all of us here at CHBC News!
