A fire at a vacant home north of Aylmer, Ont. Wednesday morning has been deemed suspicious, Elgin OPP said.
The blaze began at the property on Ron McNeil Line between Imperial and Newell roads around 4:30 a.m.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated by provincial police, said Const. Adam Crewdson.
“At this time [the investigation] is being led by police,” Crewdson said. “We do have our forensic identification section that did attend the fire scene and collect evidentiary material. As well, the Elgin County Crime Unit is assisting in the investigation as to how this fire happened.”
Crewdson said the property used to be a dairy farm, but has not been used “in quite some time.”

“Our closest places are Springfield, Ont., which is along Ron McNeil Line, and Aylmer. Besides that, it’s a pretty rural area and a lot of farm country.”
Ron McNeil Line was closed for a period of time to assist firefighting efforts but has since reopened to normal traffic.
