Woman killed in central Alberta crash involving car and semi-truck

A woman has died after her car collided with a semi-truck on a central Alberta highway, police said Monday night.

Breton RCMP said officers were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 39 and Range Road 53.

The woman killed was the only person in the car, police said. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

“Traffic in both directions is currently being detoured onto nearby range roads to avoid the scene,” the RCMP said in a news release.

An investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing. Police said they expect to provide an update on Tuesday.
