A man is in custody after three women were robbed over a two-day period, including a senior who was knocked to the ground trying to hold on to her purse.
It started on Arlington Street near Notre Dame Avenue at about 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, said Winnipeg police. A 28-year-old woman waiting for a bus was threatened by a man with a knife who demanded her purse.
She gave it up, and her credit card was used in three different stores. She wasn’t hurt.
The next morning, a young woman, 19, was walking to work on McPhillips Street near Notre Dame Avenue when two men threatened her with knives and stole her backpack, lunch and phone. One guy, before running away, brandished the knife and asked her for a kiss, to which she said no. She wasn’t hurt.
A few hours later, an 81-year-old woman was walking up her church steps in the 900 block of Notre Dame Avenue at about 9:45 a.m. when a man grabbed her purse straps.
The senior tried to hold on to her purse, but the straps ended up breaking and she sprawled to the ground. The man ran away.
She didn’t need medical attention, said police, but her credit card was also used at three different stores.
At about 10:20 a.m., police tracked the man down in the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue.
Jamie Lee Beardy, 27, of Garden Hill, Man. faces numerous charges including three counts of robbery, uttering threats, sexual assault and more. He is in custody.
