Waskesiu Lake RCMP said a man is facing cocaine trafficking charges after he attempted to evade arrest earlier this week.
A Mountie with the detachment initially attempted a traffic stop approximately 25 kilometres north of the Waskesiu Lake turnoff on the evening of Jan. 30.
The driver refused to stop, according to police, and continued north on Highway 2. The RCMP member followed the suspect vehicle from a distance for roughly 66 kilometres.
Police said the suspect turned left on Highway 165, avoiding a roadblock set up a few kilometres to the north.
Another police vehicle joined the chase, according to RCMP, and members from the Pinehouse Lake and Beauval detachments set up a roadblock on Highway 165, a few kilometres east of the Highway 914 junction.
A second attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and officers used a spike belt to deflate all four tires on the vehicle.
Roderick Gardiner, 37, was then arrested.
Saskatchewan RCMP said they seized two 28-gram bags of crack cocaine from the vehicle.
Gardiner is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police, and driving while disqualified.
Police said he had been serving a conditional sentence order from a prior conviction on Aug. 30, 2018, for the possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. He has also been charged with breaching several conditions of that order.
Gardiner was remanded to appear in La Ronge provincial court on Feb. 1.
