With her weekly pick of fun things to do on the weekend, here is the rundown from Global News Morning’s Kahla Shea.
How are we already into the second month of 2019?? Time really does fly — which is all the more reason to make the most of your time this weekend with these awesome events.
1. Getting groovy
The Exchange District is rolling out the welcome mat for several international artists for this weekend’s Forthwith Festival.
Forthwith – as in Forth (at 171 McDermot Ave) – is described as a music and arts festival that’s spread out over 3 days.

The line-up includes guests from Greenland, Norway, Germany, Canada and more, putting together incredible performances, workshops and art installations.

I think it’s fair to say, that to fully understand the festival and what it entails, you just have to be there — in person — to check it out.

2. Chow time
After taking in a live performance or two at the Forthwith Festival – you might be in the mood for a bite to eat.
Well La Poutine Week runs Feb. 1 to 7 and there are over 85 restaurants participating and competing this year – that’s a lot of potatoes!

But it’s more than just spuds, curds and gravy – toppings this year include lobster, nori (seaweed) and pickles!
Organizer Daniel Gurevich says it’s best to go in with a game plan.
“Go with friends. Don’t travel alone. Poutine is a very shareable item, it’s one of those things you get to enjoy with a lot of people.”
There are also vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.
Last year, St. James Burger & Chip Co., Brazen Hall Kitchen and Brewery, and Pony Corral — Nairn took home the ‘People’s Favourite’ titles.

3. The Chanty Show
And if your poutine plan takes you by the Park Theatre on Friday night – make sure you check out Chanty Marostica.

Chanty is a local comic who is definitely on a roll – the first trans person to win the title of Canada’s Top Comic in Sirius XM’s ninth annual national competition, AND the first trans person to do an hour-long set at the Just For Laughs comedy festival.
If that’s not enough – Chanty was recently nominated for a Juno, and the comedy album The Chanty Show debuted at #1 on iTunes’ top comedy albums chart.
