A student was airlifted to hospital after the school bus she was travelling in rolled onto its side in southern Alberta on Monday, according to High River RCMP.
Just after 4 p.m., police said officers were at 690 Avenue, just east of Highway 2, to investigate what happened.
“There were eight students on the bus,” the RCMP said in a news release. “Six students are being taken home to their parents by police.”
A spokesperson for Calgary EMS said paramedics were called to the scene south of High River at 3:15 p.m. They said the patient who was airlifted was a teenage girl. She was initially taken to High River General Hospital by ground ambulance with “numerous serious, but non-life-threatening injuries,” before being airlifted to Calgary.
EMS said two other people were taken to hospital as well; a teenage boy was taken to hospital in High River with non-life-threatening injuries and a man was taken by ground ambulance to hospital in Calgary with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Drivers are being asked to use caution when approaching the scene.
“All patients are considered stable at this time,” EMS said.
