A snowmobiler is facing impaired driving charges after his vehicle ended up going into open water on Chemong Lake north of Peterborough on Saturday night.
The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. on Chemong Lake near the James A. Gifford Causeway near Kelly Boulevard in Bridgenorth. The area is 20 kilometres north of Peterborough.
Peterborough County OPP say the man was out with a group of other snowmobilers when he and the snowmobile he was operating plunged into the icy water.

Police say the other people in the group helped the man to safety and took him to a home on Pope Drive in Ennismore on the opposite side of the lake.
Peterborough paramedics transported the man to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment of possible hypothermia.
The snowmobiler has been charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 or more.
More details are expected to be released later Monday.
