On Friday, Vancouver police confirmed the incident happened just after 6:30 p.m. when officers initiated a traffic stop using their emergency lights and sirens near East Hastings and Jackson Avenue.

Police say the driver of a white Honda Civic initially began to pull over on Jackson but then unexpectedly sped away from the curb, going northbound. Seconds later, the driver, allegedly without braking, tried to drive through Cordova Street, where the vehicle collided with a grey Audi.

The Civic struck a utility pole and landed on its side.

Police say three of the four occupants were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The fourth was released at the scene.
