The seizure happened after police were dispatched to a strip mall parking lot on 25 Avenue in Vernon around 10 a.m. on Thursday, responding to reports of a suspicious man sleeping in a vehicle there.

However, once officers started talking to the man, police said, they saw what they thought was a gun in the vehicle.

“Through further investigation and search of the vehicle, officers located numerous weapons including; an antique revolver, a .22 calibre rifle, ammunition, numerous knives and imitation weapons,” Cst. Kelly Brett said in a media release.

Police seized the weapons but the RCMP said the driver will not be charged as there are “insufficient grounds” to pursue charges.

“The diligence exercised by the initiating officers permitted us to remove these weapons from circulation amongst the criminal element,” Brett said.
