Edmonton – There’s a call for help for displaced residents of a south-side motel that was ravaged by a fire Monday morning.
Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society is asking for the public to donate items like toiletries, clean bedding, and clothing for the 15 residents who have been without a home since Monday’s fire at the Southbend Motel.
Items can be dropped off at Emergency Relief’s downtown location at 10255 – 104 street, between 10 am – 3 pm, Monday to Friday.
Emergency Relief is working with Martyshuk Housing to help the displaced residents.
Martyshuk Housing is a company that assists Edmontonians with find affordable housing.
Emergency Relief Services is hoping to begin working with the residents within the next couple days.
The Red Cross has been helping the displaced residents up to this point.
Investigators say the motel blaze was deliberately set inside a suite. It caused $200,000 in damage.
A man was taken into custody shortly after the fire.
