Carjacked vehicle crashes near Sherbrook Street funeral home

One man was taken to hospital and two suspects fled the scene after a stolen car crashed near a local funeral home.

Police said the crash happened Tuesday night near Bardal Funeral Home on Sherbrook Street.

The vehicle, which came within inches of the building, appeared to have been rear-ended before hitting a street sign, which ended up through the funeral home’s window.

Police said the vehicle, a 2003 Nissan Sentra, had been stolen Tuesday around 10:50 p.m. near Beverley Street and Ellice Avenue, when a 61-year-old man was carjacked by several people standing on the road.

Five minutes later, they received a call about the Sherbrook Street collision.

At the scene, police discovered a man in need of medical attention in the rear of the vehicle. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, but has since been upgraded to stable.

Several parked vehicles nearby were also struck before the collision with the buildings.
