A Richmond RCMP officer was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition after an a traffic stop gone wrong on Sunday morning.
It happened just after 9:30 a.m., when the officer pulled over a “suspicious vehicle” near No. 3 Road and Steveston Highway.
According to police, the vehicle fled as the officer approached it. The officer was dragged by the vehicle, and was badly injured. Police say he is expected to recover.
BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) confirmed the deployment of two ambulances — one basic life support unit and one advanced life support unit to the scene.
The Richmond RCMP is now looking for a dark-coloured late-model Mercedes Benz four-door with tinted windows and a black interior. Police said the car may have damage to the driver’s side or a crack to the windshield.
Police added that a large police presence remains in several parts of the city. Global BC viewers have reported police with weapons drawn seen near Russ Baker Way and the south end of the Arthur Laing Bridge.
Anyone who sees the vehicle or has information about the incident is asked to call 911.
