Stormy forecast prompts closures and cancellations in N.B.

A number of schools across the Maritimes are closed, flights have been grounded and travel is treacherous as a wintry storm bears down on the region today.

Environment Canada issued warnings and statements for New Brunswick, in addition to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.

The national weather forecaster says parts of New Brunswick are expecting up to 25 centimetres of snow before tapering off late tonight.

As of early Friday morning, cancellations and closures are beginning to roll in.

About 3,700 NB Power customers were without power by mid-morning, mostly in the northeastern corner of New Brunswick.
