Update: 6:37: Cst. Rob Carver says the standoff is over. One man is in custody. There was no one else in the house.
“Members and tactical support team are going through the house to ensure there was only one person in the house.”
Cst. Carver said the man is being treated as police used “a lot of gas” to bring him out of the house. He thanked the community for being patient.
“I can appreciate not only how difficult it is but how scary it is for families.”
No officers were hurt.

Update, 6:32: The standoff appears to be over. Reporters at the scene say police are clearing out. One witness tells Global News that one person is in custody. We are waiting for confirmation on all these details from police.
Update, 5:15 p.m.: Cst. Rob Carver said police are still working to resolve the standoff and “there is no new danger to people in the community.”
Several sources reported hearing gunshots within the last hour, however, Carver said “the noises are not live firearm rounds.”
“Our officers are still deploying tactics to attempt to resolve this with no injuries and no loss of life.”

Neighbourhood schools remain in a hold and secure and area residents are barred from entering the area.
Update, 3:55 p.m.:
Update, 2:05 p.m.: Reports from the scene said the K-9 unit, Air1, tactical support and crisis negotiators are involved.
Police Cst. Rob Carver confirmed the ongoing standoff is connected with the situation earlier in the day.
“This morning at approximately 6 a.m. we were on the scene of a fairly serious incident on Bannerman,” he said.
“We had resolved that situation, but a second situation has erupted … at approximately 12:17.”
Carver confirmed shots were fired by an individual inside the house as well as by officers, adding that police are not aware of anyone having been hit by gunfire.
“I can tell you that we are looking at at least one individual in the house who is armed … I don’t believe we are looking at any sort of hostage situation.”

Area residents have been asked to remain indoors and surrounding schools have been placed in a hold and secure.
Update, 1:37 p.m.: A witness tells 680 CJOB they heard four shots fired and that police are on the scene with assault rifles. Nearby St. John’s high school is on a hold-and-secure.
Update, 1:25 p.m.: Police tell Global News the shots fired incident is a continuation of the earlier incident from this morning. The shots were fired at around 1 p.m.
UPDATE 1:12 p.m.: Shots fired in the area, say police.

After leaving the scene earlier this morning, Winnipeg police are back on Bannerman Avenue and asking people to stay away.
Earlier Wednesday, police were at the scene on Salter Street and Bannerman Avenue, which they called a “serious incident.” It wrapped up at about 10:45 a.m.
But at 1 p.m., they said they were back.
The serious incidents come after a man was shot on Salter Street Tuesday night.
These two incidents correspond with another serious incident in the West End Wednesday morning at about 10:45.
Police asked Winnipeggers to avoid the area around Sargent Avenue and Young Street.
No other information has been released from police.
