Laval police has confirmed the Surêté du Québec has arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and six-week-old baby.
David Santiago Caballero Rodriguez was arrested in Lachute and has been taken into hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Laval police and the Surêté du Québec were in pursuit of the suspect Thursday afternoon after Caballero Rodrigues met up with his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, who was a passenger in a vehicle in Laval at around 1 p.m. near the corner of Chemin de la Bretagne and Rue de la Fleur de Lys.
He then forcefully pulled the driver out of the car and drove off towards the Laurentians, police said.
His six-week-old baby was in the back seat of the car.
Laval police said when the suspect saw Sûreté du Québec vehicles after him, he parked on the side of the road and fled on foot.
Laval police deployed its K9 unit to a wooded area in Mirabel but suspended the search at 5:50 p.m.
The woman and her baby were found safe inside the vehicle. The driver — the baby’s grandmother — is also safe.
Laval police say the man is facing charges of car theft and kidnapping.
