Man arrested after standoff at Burnaby home

A man has been arrested after a police standoff at a home in Burnaby Thursday night.

Multiple police vehicles were called to the residence on Canada Way between 18th Avenue and Edmonds Street.

Burnaby RCMP say they were called because of a domestic violence dispute.

They were able to get a woman out of the house but a man had locked himself inside the residence.

Police were then notified the man has a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

Several neighbouring houses were evacuated, however police say there is no risk to public safety.

Shortly before midnight police were able to negotiate the man out of the house and he was taken into custody.

Neighbours were then allowed to return to their homes.

Officers say the man is known to police.
