Later that afternoon, the coroner notified RCMP that the adult male victim died in hospital from his injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation. It said early indications suggest the attack was not random.

IHIT identified the victim as Wesley Dean Rideout, who was known to police.

“We believe there are persons out there who knew of Mr. Rideout’s activities on the night of his assault,” Cpl. David Lee of IHIT said.
