A six-year-old girl has died after being struck by an LRT train Monday morning.
Calgary police said at 7:57 a.m. they received a report that a pedestrian had been struck near the Somerset-Bridlewood LRT Station.
Video from the Global1 helicopter showed an ambulance rushing to the Alberta Children’s Hospital under police escort.
EMS said the patient was in critical, life-threatening condition.
The girl later died of her injuries, police said in a news release.

Sgt. Chris Agren said it’s believed the girl was walking to school when she was hit.
“When she attempted to cross the tracks she, unfortunately, got confused because lights and arms started to sound as she was crossing,” he said. “The driver observed her as well and did sound the horn in an attempt to get her to clear the track as he tried to slow the train down.
“She then, unfortunately, doubled back into the path of the train because she was confused about what was going on.”

The Calgary Catholic School District confirmed to Global News the victim attended one of its schools but didn’t say which one.
In a statement sent to Global News, Calgary Transit called the collision “a terrible tragedy.”
“Our hearts and prayers are with the little girl’s family.”
The intersection of 162 Avenue S.E. and Shawville Boulevard was closed for about three hours as police investigated.
Calgary Transit tweeted at 10:42 a.m. that redline trains were moving again from Fish Creek-Lacombe Station towards Somerset-Bridlewood.
