EDMONTON- The Edmonton Police Service Hate Crimes Unit is investigating, after some disturbing graffiti was found on a home in southeast Edmonton.
The home, located in the Ellerslie neighbourhood, was spray-painted with swastikas and a number of racist comments. Police say a passing motorist saw the graffiti on Sunday, and called police to report it.
Officers say while this is an isolated case, they do not believe it was random.
“Although one residence was vandalized, the community as a whole is negatively affected by this crime,” said Inspector Ed McIsaac with the EPS Organized Crimes Branch.
Edmonton’s Police Chief says the crime is shocking and unacceptable.
Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to call the hate crimes unit at 780-421-3489 or the EPS non-emergent complaint line at 780-423-4567.
There were 112 cases of hate crimes reported to Edmonton police in 2012.
