Emergency crews are investigating the cause of a major structure fire that occurred off the Bedford Highway on Friday.
The blaze broke out on Evans Avenue, off Main Avenue just before 5 p.m.
Few details have been released, but Halifax Regional Police say several crews are currently at the scene.
Halifax Fire District Chief Mike Blackburn says the home was fully engulfed in flames upon their arrival.
“It was defensive in our world, which means we weren’t able to go inside,” said Blackburn said. “There was too much fire so the crews worked from the exterior.”
Blackburn says no one was home at the time and the house is a total loss.
A section of Main Avenue was forced to be shut down, but has since reopened. No other homes were damaged.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
