Bail supervision report ordered for mom accused of attempted murder

SASKATOON – A judge has ordered a bail supervision report for a Saskatoon mother accused of stabbing her six-year-old son.

The 32-year-old mom is accused of trying to kill her son last week and did not appear at her scheduled court appointment on Tuesday.

Defence lawyer Richard Elson told the judge a bail report is needed because of events that predate the alleged stabbing.

Elson says this is likely because there’s significant civil history with the accused that predates last week’s incident.

Saskatoon police were called the incident last Thursday that began as a custody dispute in the Nutana neighbourhood.

Police say the former husband was trying to pick up his 6-year-old son along with his 10-year-old brother when things went amiss.

The woman was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after police found her and her youngest bleeding from several stab wounds.

She allegedly suffered self-inflected stab wounds to her abdomen and cuts to her wrists.

The 6-year-old boy was hospitalized after being stabbed in the abdomen and suffering a cut to the neck.

Elson said he believes the six-year-old has been released from hospital and is doing okay.

“The child was discharged from the hospital the next day. I’ve seen police reports with respect to the injuries but I haven’t seen medical information,” said Elson.

“The support has been significant from friends and her family is worried, not just about my client but also about the 2 children.”

The Crown is opposed to the 32-year-old woman’s release and a bail hearing has been set in provincial court for Monday.
