Suspicious car fire in Pitt Meadows sends one man to hospital

A suspicious vehicle fire in Pitt Meadows on Tuesday night has sent one man to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

At around 9 p.m., an SUV burst into flames when the man went to open the vehicle’s door, parked in the 2100-block of 191B Street.

The man suffered a range of injuries to his face, hands and feet. The vehicle was destroyed.

Witnesses told Global News they heard a loud bang when the incident happened.

“It’s pretty freaky. It sounded like gunshot, not like a bomb, not one big boom,” said witness Rick Bradshaw.

“All of the sudden, it was like, ‘Bang!’ It sounded like gunshots were going off.”

RCMP Staff Sgt. Parm Prihar will not comment on a possible motive.

“The fire is suspicious and we’re looking at all angles,” Prihar said. “Nobody else involved from what we know. We’ve got our experts at the scene and we’ll get to the bottom of it.”
